Teaching Units oriented towards International Relations (Unité d’Eneignement d’Ouverture – UEO) are only open to second year undergraduate students (L2) in their fourth semester of undergraduate studies (S4). Languages: english ou Spanish

Objectives :

Run discussion workshops in your native language (Spanish or English) in which you elicit conversation or debate between participating students on different themes and subjects of interest using resources that you have found and prepared for these workshops with the objective of encouraging and motivating participants to speak in the targeted language as openly as possible. This UEO also involves engaging in a reflexive approach to running these workshops.

These workshops are offered in particular to students who have chosen to take the UEO Preparing for international Mobility (préparation à la mobilité international) in English or Spanish.

Course content :

One hour of training at the Maison des Langues followed by the preparation and hosting of 9 hours of discussion workshops. Preparation includes pedagogical over-view and support through regular exchanges with a supervisor. You will be expected to create a portfolio describing the workshops and explaining how your approach to the workshops evolved over time.

 

Objectives :

Allow students to learn the basics of an intercultural approach through theory and practical experience. The objectives of this UEO are to:

  • Acquire the basics of interculturality and intercultural communication
  • Gain an understanding of Poitier University’s approach to International Relations
  • Acquire the skills necessary to welcome and provide help to a specific group
  • Develop linguistic and cultural adaptability skills
  • Organize and run group activities
  • Analyze intercultural situations

Course content :

Nine hours of theory on interculturality, intercultural communications and Poitiers university partnerships followed by the organization and hosting of 3 to 4 activities and outings with two international students that you are mentoring over the semester.
Note: You will be expected to keep a logbook during this period with no classes to accompany you in the development of your intercultural awareness. You will be expected to write a report describing how your intercultural skills and experiences have developed and evolved. This report will be handed in and be the object of an oral presentation.

Objectives :

  • Prepare students for studies or work abroad in English or Spanish speaking countries
  • Give students the opportunity to improve their English and Spanish communication skills in every-day situations
  • Develop students’ understanding of targeted countries
  • Increase students’ intercultural awareness

Content :

  • 20 hours of class in English or Spanish (15 hours face to face + 5 hours on-line platform UPdago) only open to students with a B1 language skill level and above.
  • Forty hours of additional personal investment through:
    • Participation in discussion workshops in English or Spanish (workshops run by native speaking foreign students) requiring a B1 language level minimum.
    • A portfolio in English or Spanish describing your project abroad
